One region, one vision, one future
About the Summit
The Regional Environmental Summit 2026, held under the auspices of the United Nations, was initiated by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Its purpose is to unite the countries of Central Asia in developing joint solutions to address climate change. This is not merely a meeting — it is a two-year preparatory process that began in 2024 and will culminate in a high-level summit in 2026, where coordinated climate initiatives and mechanisms for regional cooperation will be presented.

At the heart of this initiative lies the idea of "Bir Tamyr" (One Root). The word tamyr exists in nearly all the languages of the region and carries a deep symbolic meaning: roots of nature, veins of the earth, vessels of culture. It is a metaphor for connection, resilience, and shared heritage — one that unites Central Asia not by political borders, but by meaning, memory, and a common future.

The Summit embodies this vision: one region — shared challenges — collective action. It will bring together governments, international organizations, the scientific community, businesses, civil society, and youth to lay the foundation for a common climate future.
About the Summit
The Regional Environmental Summit 2026, held under the auspices of the United Nations, was initiated by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and brings together Central Asian countries in a joint effort to combat climate change.

The Summit is a two-year process (2024–2026), culminating in a high-level meeting where shared climate initiatives will be presented.

At its core is the idea of “Bir Tamyr” (One Root) — a symbol of the region’s natural and cultural interconnectedness. It is a metaphor for a shared past and a common future.

The Summit will unite governments, international organizations, the scientific community, businesses, and youth to develop collective solutions.
Summit Vision and Impact
The Regional Environmental Summit 2026, held under the auspices of the United Nations, serves as a platform for uniting Central Asian countries in the development of coordinated climate solutions.
Preparations for the Summit began in 2024 and include a series of regional consultations. The goal is to shape concrete initiatives and mechanisms for joint action. The Summit will mark the culmination of this process and provide political momentum to the region’s climate agenda.
This initiative builds on existing national efforts, adding a regional dimension. At its core will be an agreed-upon climate agenda, including updated national targets from Central Asian countries to be presented in 2025.

Expected outcomes include the launch of a Regional Program for Climate Research Support, strengthened interstate cooperation, and the alignment of a common regional approach to climate action.
